What the Lesson Covers

  1. 0:00A scanner turns the whole market into a short list, using rules somebody wrote.
  2. 0:05The funnel. Every listed stock goes in. A price and volume floor removes the untradeable, one condition removes nearly everything else, and a few names come out.
  3. 0:16Same market, two scans. Run a gap scan and a new-high scan at the same minute and the two lists barely overlap. Neither one is wrong.
  4. 0:26Where a scan misleads. Delayed prices, thin small caps and relative volume that ignores the time of day all put names on the list that looked different a minute later.
  5. 0:36What the list is. A scan result holds no signals. Each row is a stock that still needs a chart.
  6. 0:44Read the rules of a scan before reading what it returned.
