What the lesson covers

  1. 0:00Selling one day earlier can cost you a materially higher tax rate.
  2. 0:05The boundary. More than one year is long term. One year or less is short term, taxed as income.
  3. 0:14Why the gap is large. Ordinary income rates run considerably higher than the long-term brackets.
  4. 0:23How the clock is counted. From the day after purchase to the sale date, and each tax lot counts separately.
  5. 0:32The practical implication. Knowing the date a position turns long term is worth checking before selling.
