A watchlist is only useful if it is short enough to actually read, and the Market News Feed exists to explain a move you have already noticed, with the measured reaction beside it.

What the Lesson Covers

  1. 0:00A watchlist of two hundred names is not a watchlist. It is a directory.
  2. 0:05The purpose. Names you have already researched and would act on if a level were reached.
  3. 0:14The removal habit. A name that has not been looked at in a month is not being watched.
  4. 0:23What the Market News Feed is for. Explaining a move you already noticed, not generating ideas to chase. Why It's Moving starts that work, citing the filing or headline on record.
  5. 0:34What is still coming. On My Dashboard, Catalyst Countdown puts what is coming on a clock, under two cards: one scores the whole market's health, the other counts how many separate bets your own list is.
  6. 0:45What the story was worth. The feed measures the move in the fifteen minutes after a headline printed, on every plan that opens the News tab. Most of them move nothing.
  7. 0:55The tape on your names. Your Live Tape, on My Dashboard, reports what the market did on your own names today: new highs, big moves, volume bursts, your price lines, filings.
  8. 1:05The order that works. Price first, news second. Reading news first is how a watchlist fills with noise.
  9. 1:13Keep it short, give every name a level, and read price before news.
