What the Lesson Covers

  1. 0:00Most large moves in a single stock have a document behind them.
  2. 0:05Where each one lands. Earnings come in under 8-K Item 2.02, with the release as Exhibit 99.1. An officer leaving is Item 5.02. A share sale shows up as a 424B.
  3. 0:17Expectations first. The market had a number in mind before the release. Price moves on the distance between that number and the result.
  4. 0:27Scheduled and unscheduled. Earnings and economic releases come with a date. Deals, departures and offerings arrive whenever they are filed.
  5. 0:37Why it gaps. Most releases land outside regular hours, so the next open reprices everything in one step, and that step is the gap.
  6. 0:46Find the 8-K, read the item number, then open the exhibit.
