What Is in This Guide

  • The first portfolio starts at $100,000 of simulated cash; you can open up to twelve, deposit into any of them, cash out of any of them, and close any but the last.
  • The ticket offers the five order types a retail brokerage does: market, limit, stop, stop limit and trailing stop, Day or Good till cancelled.
  • A market order fills at once during the session at the live price, or once it opens if placed outside it; a limit, stop or trailing stop works until it fills or lapses, and can be cancelled until then.
  • Buying power is the cash free to spend, less what working orders hold back; Invested is what the stocks held are worth; the two add up to the account value.
  • Average cost is the price paid across every buy of a stock, and total return is measured against it.
  • A result on a paper portfolio is practice. It says nothing about what the same trade would do with real money.
